Rocky Mountain

Today we didn't have a game plan when we set out; we just wanted to explore. We drove into the park through the west entrance and headed east on Trail Ridge Road. Big Sister was itching to get out (who can blame her after 3 days on the road!), so we stopped off at Milner Pass to take a walk along a little stream. A bit farther down the road we stopped to see a herd of elk, much to Big Sister's delight. Then we drove the rest of the way through the park and into Estes Park while the littles were napping. When we made our way back into the park, we took Old Fall River Road. It was such a scenic drive! We planned to hike Chasm Falls, but the trail was closed for repair. We did find a nice little spot by the river to eat our picnic lunch though. The beach at Grand Lake was our last stop for the day, where we saw some beautiful sailboats. Big Sister rounded the day off with 2 trips to the playground back at the campground.

Throughout the day Big Sister educated us about some interesting facts:
There are 2 kinds of trees in Rocky Mountain National Park -
Kanusha Trees - trees with spikes
Galeedah Trees - fluffy trees
And finally:
It's important to watch out for elk. They eat grass and PEOPLE!!
That girl sure makes us smile!

We think that Little Bud might grow up to be a bit of a dare devil. As we drove back down the mountain toward Grand Lake, he squealed with delight as we rounded every turn! He is such a fun, happy boy!
