Weekend at the Beach

This past weekend we decided to head down to the Florida coast. To save a little gas money, we packed light (if that's even possible with 2 kids!), and squeezed into the Prius.  We stayed Friday and Saturday night in Pensacola Beach. Big Sister had a blast! Little Bud was not a fan of the sand until the last few minutes of the second day when he decided after a few shudders that it might not be so bad. He then proceeded to crawl around and taste a bit of the gritty white stuff. The weather was beautiful; sunny with highs in the low 70s. We're getting the hang of traveling with 2 kids, so overall the weekend was a success. Being back in Pensacola Beach made me miss my Brownsville friends. We need to plan a get together soon girls; I'm sure our kids would have a blast getting to know each other!

Big Sister was quite excited about the bunk beds in the
kid's nook in our room!

Happy about her bear pancake!

Big Sister played with a new friend on Saturday.
They both had a blast finding shells and building castles!

Looking up at the ferris wheel; not so sure about it now that we're up close!
(she had to have her "purse" with her all night!)

way up HIGH!
(remembering why I don't like ferris wheels!)

Sunshine!

After weeks of seemingly endless rain and gloomy skies, we enjoyed a glorious weekend full of sunshine!  On Saturday, we took the littles to the Montgomery Zoo; we even decided to get a year membership, since it'll pay for itself in just 3 visits.  We brought along a picnic lunch (unlike the Birmingham Zoo, they allow you to bring food in with you, and even have a great playground with picnic tables and benches) and after we ate, Big Sister and Little Bud enjoyed some much needed play time.  We spent a few hours walking around, checking out all the cool animals (Big Sister even got to feed the giraffes!) before heading home.

On Sunday, we spent the afternoon enjoying the sunshine in our own backyard, swinging, sliding and jumping. Big Sister also went for a ride in her new jeep.

In between all of the fun, we accomplished a few projects around the house that needed our attention.

All in all, it was a great weekend!

swinging just might be this sweet little guy's favorite activity

cruising around in their comfy new stroller (great Craigslist find!)

feeding the giraffes!!

Big Sister was having a "Mary Poppins" moment here,
singing, "Just a Spoon Full of Sugar" while making us follow
along in a line behind her.

Fleeing the scene of her first accident!
Hit and RUN!!

We often call Little Bud "Crazy Hair".
The longer it grows, the crazier it becomes!!

10 months

Little Bud passed the 10 month mark over 2 weeks ago, but in the hustle and bustle of everything, I forgot to take pictures until today!  He continues to be a sweet and happy little guy.

A few months ago, he started waking up between 4 and 5:30 every morning to nurse.  He usually goes back to sleep, but sometimes if he wakes up closer to 5:30 (which seems to be the norm for him now), he wakes up Big Sister with his trying to go back to sleep, and when that happens, they chat/coo/sing at each other until it's time to wake up.  A few glorious mornings they both slept until 6:30/6:45, but unfortunately for us, they quickly returned back to their "normal" schedule.  The major downside is that if Little Bud does wake up that early, he desperately needs his morning nap, and since most of Big Sister's activities are in the morning, that does present a problem some days.  We never experienced this problem with Big Sister, but I do remember her waking up around this same time most mornings and babbling a bit before going back to sleep.  This is the one downside to them sharing a room.  If he was in his own room, I probably wouldn't have been so quick to get him up to feed him when he started his waking up routine.  The upside is that I get a few extra seconds of snuggle time with him every morning, although as soon as he finishes nursing, he scoots over to see what Daddy's doing.  Little Bud sure loves his Daddy!

He's making more noises this month, clicking his tongue (one day he even was making a snapping motion with his fingers while clicking his tongue at the same time when we were listening to music in the car), doing the typical baby "blah, blah, blah" sound while sticking his tongue in and out, fake coughing, making the "Indian" sound by clapping his hand to his mouth, growling and he also does a strange growl/whine if he doesn't get his way (or he catches you eating when he hasn't been offered a snack; he considers this behavior quite rude!).

He seems to be gaining weight well, although since everything checked out great at his last check up, we haven't been back to the doctor to have him weighed.  I thought about scheduling a weight check, but with all the bugs and viruses going around, I don't want to risk any of us catching something while at the doctor's office.

He's been enjoying all of his new Christmas toys.  Big Sister has actually been interested in all of his new toys as well, and we've already encountered a few sharing struggles.  Thankfully those seem to be behind us now, since Big Sister has realized the art of offering a different toy to replace the one she's about to swipe from him.

December Graduations

In the middle of December, we celebrated two graduations, one on each side of the family.  John's sister Elizabeth graduated from the University of Montevallo and my sister, Jamie graduated with her Master's Degree from Samford University.  Their graduations were back to back (Friday night and Saturday morning), so we divided and conquered.  John attended Elizabeth's graduation, while I kept the littles and he watched them while I attended Jamie's.  Unfortunately, John didn't take any pictures at Elizabeth's graduation, but I did take a few at Jamie's.  We're so proud of them both!!  Congratulations!

Dudley Family Christmas

Around lunch time on Christmas Day, we went over to John's parents' house for the Dudley Family Christmas.  We visited and enjoyed lunch, the kids swapped gifts and the adults played a fun game of "Yankee Swap".  The kids also signed a birthday card to Jesus and then sent it "up" to Him with some birthday balloons.  This was Big Sister's first year to really understand this tradition, and she was so excited!
