Hiking

We're hoping to do a bit of hiking on our trip, and this is how we plan to go about it:

This is "Big Sister's" ride:

"Little Bud's" ride:

Good thing we only have 2 kids; not sure what where we'd stash another!

Adventure

5 weeks
6082.4 miles
96 hours, 26 minutes
17 States, 1 Canadian Province
2 parents, 2 littles
1 motor home
=
1 BIG ADVENTURE!!!

Planning a cross country trip with 2 littles is a bit daunting.   Thankfully our kids are travel troopers, and motor home travel is blessedly easier than car travel.  The first leg of our trip will take us to Great Sand Dunes National Park which is 1,311.3 miles from our house, and AAA TripPik Travel Planner tells us it will take about 19 hours and 40 minutes drive time to cover the distance.  Our plan is to divide the journey into 3 days.  John is going to drive some during the littles usual sleep time to make the trek a bit easier on them (and us too!).  We're loading up the iPad with books, games and a few of "Big Sister's" favorite shows; "Little Bud" is easily entertained with a few toys, books, keeping a close eye on Big Sister and trying to decide if he'd rather chew on his thumb or his big toe!

While we're out west we're hoping to visit the following places:

Great Sand Dunes National Park
Rocky Mountain National Park
Salt Lake City (to visit the Sandors; so glad our trip times coordinated!)
The Grand Tetons
Yellowstone National Park
Glacier National Park
Banff National Park, Canada (Ice Fields Parkway)
Red Lodge Montana (to drive Bear Tooth Pass)
Devil's Tower
Mt. Rushmore
Badlands National Park
We might swing by the Ingalls Homestead in De Smet, SD
Mammoth Cave National Park (Kentucky)

The main purpose of this blog is to chronicle our trip with stories, photos and videos, so that our kids will be able to enjoy the memories of our trip for years to come (because, let's face it, they probably won't actually remember any of it!).  We're planning to turn this blog into a book once our trip is complete, and I'm contemplating the idea of keeping the blog going after we're home as a sort of scrapbook.

Some of my most treasured childhood memories are from the motor home trips we took while I was growing up; we were so blessed to visit many amazing and breathtaking places (Thanks Dad and Mom!).  I'm so excited to pass this "tradition" down to our sweet kiddos.

Any travel advice or must see tips will be greatly appreciated!
